Mrs. Blodwen Stoddard, recently discharged from the Navy Nurse Corps and former public health nurse of Steuben, was granted an extended leave of absence in order that she may continue her studies in public health at Syracuse University under the GI Bill of Rights. Supervisors appropriated $10,000 to the County Highway fund to be set aside for engineering supervision and administration, subject to approval the State Department of Public Works, Division of Highways. A revised salary schedule for public health nurses 5 of the County was referred to the salary committee for consideration.
The new chairman of the was made an ex-officio member of all committees of the Board. The Board referred to the address- way Committee a petition ed to State Sen. Fred S. Hollowell, of Penn Yan, requesting construction of a hard surface road, following the no normal mail route connecting river road in the Town of Corning with the Hendy Hollow Road in Caton and Big Flats. The road, in addition to being a mail route, is a school bus route, and serves several dairies.

Son's Death Confirmed Mansfield- -Mrs. William Anderson of Extension has been notified by the Navy Department that her husband, Torpedoman William Anderson, reported missing since 1944, has. been officially declared' dead. He was aboard the USS Tullibee when the submarine was lost at sea off Palau Island while tracking a Japanese convoy.
Torpedoman Anderson had served six years in the' Navy prior to his -enlistment in 1942. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Geraldine Bailey, sons, Charles, Bailey and William and Margaret, at home, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson of Sullivan St. MISSING SINCE DEC.
