The latest data released at the 2023 SHEEO (State Higher Education Executive Officers Association) Conference reported an overall decline of 1.2 million students at four-year institutions over the past three years. Last week, thanks to my job, I got to attend KCB Foundation’s Laptop Handover Ceremony to its 2022 University Scholars. I must commend the KCB Foundation for the work that is doing towards sustainable development and alleviation of poverty in this country. I had the benefit of sitting through Michael Murungi's session with the University scholars and I must admit that despite having worked for almost fifteen years, his message deeply resounded with me. Michael Murungi shared with the students that in today’s world, it is not about just having a job, it is about having a mission. That a job just by itself, while it would give financial security, if not aligned with purpose, will not amount to much. He encouraged them to align their future work with their #values and #purpose, the outcome of which will be #meaning, #impact and #personalfulfillment . The concept behind a mission is that one is constantly in a space of reflection, exploration and networking so that they are in a place where one can provide solutions to gaps identified in their realm of influence. We often hear/read of people who have struggled with the meaning of life after a job transition. But with a life mission, while a job may end and undeniably come with a feeling of loss, it is not all lost because one would then begin to slowly tap into one of the other pathways they have developed. A life mission is about optimizing one’s potential and capabilities. I learnt painfully the importance of being purpose-led twelve years into my career. Had I heard what Michael shared just before leaving university, it would have made a whole lot of difference in how I handled my career. This is not to lament. In the words of Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, you do better.” And that’s my rallying call for today to those of us who are ahead in the career and life journey. Let's#mentor university students and young professionalsby sharing our experiences, lessonsand insights. This waywe can help themnavigate the path to purposeand avoid some of thepitfallswe might have unknowingly stumbled into.

Avoiding unhealthy competition: CBSE and ICSE will no more release topper's list from this year for board exams.🌿 A much-needed educational shift, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has decided to discontinue merit lists for its Class 10 (ICSE) and Class 12 (ISC) board exams starting this year. This move, aimed at reducing the pressure and unhealthy competition among students, aligns with similar actions taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) last year.🌿 CISCE Chief Executive and Secretary Joseph Emmanuel emphasized thatthe decision was madeto foster a healthier educational environment. "We have discontinued issuing merit lists for board exams from this year. The moveis aimedat avoiding unhealthy competition among students," he stated during the announcement of the board results on Monday.🌿 The results for the 2024 examinations revealed a slight increase in the pass percentages for both classes. The pass rate for Class X students is 99.47%, with girls outperforming boys, achieving a 99.65% pass rate compared to 99.29% for boys. Similarly, Class XII saw an overall pass rate of 98.19%, with girls again leading at 98.92% over the boys' 97.46%.🌿 Following the pandemic's disruptions, which led to suspending board exams and the adoption ofalternative evaluation methods, CISCE resumed the merit list practice. However, with the recent decision, the board aims to shift focus from competitive rankings to individual student growth and learning.🌿 The CISCE's decision has sparked discussions among educators and parents regarding the impact of competitive rankings on student well-being and the educational atmosphere. This change is part of a broader trend towards holistic education reform, recognizing students' diverse capabilities and well-being beyond mere academic achievement.🌿 Meanwhile, CBSEis setto announce its Class 10 and 12 results in mid-May. This year's exams saw a record participation of 39 lakh students from 26 countries, underlining the scale and scope of board examinations in shaping educational standards in India.Source: TheTatvaWhat are your views on this? 📃 🇮🇳 Shiva Kumar Aerra#CISCE #BoardExams #EducationReform #MeritList #ICSE #ISC #CBSE #HolisticEducation #StudentWellbeing #AcademicCompetition #BoardExamResults #EducationalTrends #PassRates #IndianEducation University Grants Commission (UGC) University of Hyderabad

How will this trend influence education, industry, continuous learning and professional development? How can we stay ahead and fill the current and future needs? What will organizations need to know about learning and teaching? What do educators need to know about organizations and industry. Unified efforts will be the most effective and efficient way for us all to adapt. If you are not thinking about innovation and change - you should be. #cte#careerdevelopment #collaborativeleadership #communitybuilding #education #change
